Sylvia Patricia “Pat” Casteel Booth

Sylvia Patricia “Pat” Casteel Booth, Age 72, Of Athens, TN, Passed away Saturday morning November 28, 2015 at her home and is now singing in the presence of the Lord.

A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was a daughter of the late William Luther “Luke” and Anna Mae Womac Casteel and was preceded in death by sisters: Agnes Moore and Johnnie Barton; Brothers: Ed Casteel and Bill Casteel, Brother in laws: Wayne Moore and Paul Burnette. She worked as a beautician for many years and also worked as a Realtor. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Survivors include:

Her loving husband of 41 years: David F. Booth of Athens

2 Daughters and sons in law:

Tonya and Billy Moore of Niota

Tiffany and Richard Cardin of Athens

God Daughter, Nicole Andrano of Athens

Sisters and spouses:

Pauline Burnett of Kingston, TN

Teresa and Don Bradford of Athens

Sisters in Law: Ada Casteel of Athens, and Barbara Casteel of Chickamauga, GA

Brother and spouse:

Steve and Betty Casteel of Athens

Brother in law: Frank Barton of Athens

Brother and sisters in law:

Jerry and Wanda Booth of Alabama

Sandra Blackburn of Alabama

Grandchildren: Clay and Amber Moore of Athens, Joshua and Whitney Moore of Honolulu, HI, and Skylar Moore of Niota.

Great-grandchildren: Kyla, Kaitlyn, John Ryan and Nick Moore.

Many nieces and nephews and many friends and family.

The family would like to thank Caris Hospice, and to thank special caregivers Kim Moses, Cyndi Crabtree, Katie Moore, and Karen Aikman.

Funeral services will be 7 pm Wednesday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Arwood officiating.  Burial will be 11 AM Thursday in McMinn Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Steve Casteel, Don Bradford, Richard Cardin, Clay Moore, Joshua Moore, Skylar Moore, and Billy Moore

The family will receive friends 4 to 7 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.

Annie K. Anderson Patton

Age 91

Of Athens

Passed away Sunday morning, November 22, 2015

At her residence.

 

She was born April 5, 1924 to John and Emma Kyker Anderson in the Union Grove Community near Niota, Tennessee. “Kay” as she was known to family and friends, was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Athens where she sang in both the Adult and the Senior Adult Choirs. She also served at one time as a G.A. leader and was an active participant in the Women on Mission Group.

 

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Patton was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Roy Everett Patton, son-in-law, David McCormack, five brothers and four sisters.

 

Survivors include two daughters,

Emily McCormack of Athens

Beverly Patton and her husband, David Lones of Buckingham, VA.

Five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren

One brother,

Roy Anderson of Athens

Numerous nieces and nephews.

 

The family will receive friends from 10 am-12 pm prior to the funeral services at 12:00 pm on Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Athens with the pastor, Dr. Jason Clark officiating.

 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. Patton’s memory to the Building Fund at First Baptist Church.

Virginia Loyd Smith Brown O’Daniel

Age 78

Of Athens and formerly of Bridgeport, AL.

Passed away Sunday, November 22, 2015

At Starr Regional Medical Center of Athens.

 

A native of Bridgeport, AL. and resident of McMinn County since 1972, she was a daughter of the late Leonard Jack and Alma Lea Loyd Smith and was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Walden; brother, Jacky Smith; late husband, Robert D. Brown; grandson, Eric Creekmore. She retired from Thomas & Betts after 27 years of service and was a member of Allen Memorial United Methodist Church.

 

Survivors include her husband of 9 years,

Jimmy O’Daniel of Athens

One daughter and son-in-law,

Vickie Brown Creekmore and her husband, Louie of Jasper

Two sons and daughters-in-law,

Robert “Bob” Brown and his wife, Susan of Riceville

Larry “L.B.” Brown and his wife, Mary Ann of Athens

Four grandchildren: Adam Creekmore, Alex Creekmore, April Brown Wilson, and Stephanie Brown Webb

Two great grandchildren: Elizabeth Boyles and Ben Wilson.

Two step children,

Charlotte Jackson and her husband, Mark of Niota

Harold O’Daniel of Orange Park, FL.

Two step grandchildren: Heather Lain and Jared Lain

Adopted grandchildren: The Murphy children

Five sisters and three brothers-in-law,

Mary Durhammer of Kalamazoo, MI.

Linda Smith and her husband, Jack of Flat Rock, AL.

Connie Rounsavall and her husband, Don of Scottsboro, AL.

Nancy Strawn and her husband, James of Scottsboro, AL.

Bruce Smith of Bridgeport, AL.

 

Funeral services will be 7 pm Tuesday at Allen Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charla Sherbakoff officiating. Burial will be 10 am Wednesday central time in Stevenson City Cemetery.

 

Pallbearers will be Alex Creekmore, Adam Creekmore, Don Wilson, Ben Wilson, Louie Creekmore, and Mark Jackson.

 

The family will receive friends 5-7 pm Tuesday at Allen Memorial United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Structural Fund at Allen Memorial United Methodist Church.

Charles Douglas Ratledge

Age 64

Of Knoxville and formerly of Athens

Passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2015 in Knoxville

 

He was born in Athens on February 16, 1951. He was preceded in death by his father, Acton Edward Ratledge in June 1951 and his mother Glenna Patricia Cate-Miller in March 1994. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Fred Miller in February 1996 and two brothers, Acton Edward Ratledge in March 1950 and Thomas M. Miller in August 2009. He got his GED and went to college at Cleveland State Community College and received his Associates Degree in Architecture/Drafting. He was an architect for a period, an accomplished artist and served in the Vietnam War.

 

Survivors include a daughter that he loved dearly, Kristina and her fiancé, Scott, one grandson and one granddaughter that he loved dearly, Morgan Kelley and Heaven Keller all of Florida

Also survived by two brothers, Jerry Miller of Etowah and Gary Miller of Athens

Three sisters, Judith Watts of Kansas, Beverly Burris and Elizabeth Miller both of Athens

Four nephews, Scott, Gerald, Lucas, and Dylan

Five nieces, Rebecca, Jennifer, Shawna, Jodi, and Brandi

Several great nieces and great nephews

 

His body has been cremated and will be laid to rest by his parents in Athens as well as permanent retirement in Florida with his daughter. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
