About Us

Tom and Polly Ziegler established Ziegler Funeral Home on January 1, 1958, at its current location. Tom Ziegler was from Southern Meigs County, Tennessee. Polly Ziegler is from Winchester, Tennessee. They met while Tom was attending John A. Gupton School of Mortuary Science in Nashville, Tennessee. Tom and Polly returned to Athens in 1950 and worked for Evans Funeral Home in downtown Athens. Tom and Polly subsequently moved one-half mile down the road and opened their Funeral Home. Tom and Polly retired in February 1999, after many years of serving families of McMinn and Meigs Counties.
