David Baker “Pappy” McConkey, age 79, lifelong resident of McMinn County, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. He was a former baseball coach and an avid U.T. Vols fan.
He is preceded by his parents: William Dallas “W.D.” and Ruth Ann Grubb McConkey.
David is survived by his sons: Kevin Wayne McConkey (Lauren) and Jeffrey Duwayne McConkey, stepson: Donnie Lee Ricker, brothers: Gary McConkey, Billy McConkey, and Ronnie McConkey, grandchildren: Ryan Dean McConkey, Haylei Rose McConkey, Cody Wayne McConkey, Aaron McConkey, Justin McConkey, Ashley McConkey, Skylar Jones, Whitley Wooden, Carter Wooden, and Bailey Wooden, former wife and friend: Virginia Carol Hicks, along with several great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, March 6, 2024, at Ziegler Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Sliger officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hill Cemetery in Etowah.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
