At U.T. Medical Center of Knoxville.
Bernie was born in Freeburn, KY. and was a longtime resident of Sprigg, WV. before moving to McMinn County over 21 years ago. He was a son of the late Arnold and Ida McCoy Hayes. His greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren, he also enjoyed buying and selling cars and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years,

Six grandchildren: Emily Harrison, Bryson Terrell, Abagail Harrison, Kinsley Hayes, Landon Hayes and McKinley Hayes.

Funeral services will be 1 pm Thursday at Union McMinn Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in Niota Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Troy Allen, Daniel Morgan, Clint Harrison, Roger Huffman., Keith Gibson, and James Boggess. Honorary pallbearer will be Bruce McCoy.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Wednesday at the Union McMinn Baptist Church.
