Passed away Monday, January 13, 2020

At U.T. Medical Center of Knoxville.

Bernie was born in Freeburn, KY. and was a longtime resident of Sprigg, WV.  before moving to McMinn County over 21 years ago. He was a son of the late Arnold and Ida McCoy Hayes. His greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren, he also enjoyed buying and selling cars and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years,

   Lois Jean Gibson Hayes of Niota

One daughter and son-in-law,

   Shawna and Clint Harrison of Georgetown

One son and daughter-in-law,

   David and Niki Hayes of Niota

Six grandchildren: Emily Harrison, Bryson Terrell, Abagail Harrison, Kinsley Hayes, Landon Hayes and McKinley Hayes.

Four sisters and three brothers-in-law,

   Rita and Tom Scott of Piqua, OH.

   Audrey and Jennings Murphy of White Sulphur Springs, WV.

   Kathy and Arthur White of Merrimac, WV.

   Ruthie White of Merrimac, WV.

Seven brothers and two sisters-in-law,

   Robert Hayes of Niota

   Herbert and Karen Hayes of Red Jacket, WV.

   Willie and Patricia Hayes of Flint, MI.

   Thurman Hayes of Huntington, WV.

   Chris Hayes of Matewan, WV.

   Arnold Hayes of Marlinton, WV.

   Gerald Hayes of Sprigg, WV.

Funeral services will be 1 pm Thursday at Union McMinn Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Alexander officiating.  Burial will follow in Niota Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Troy Allen, Daniel Morgan, Clint Harrison, Roger Huffman., Keith Gibson, and James Boggess.  Honorary pallbearer will be Bruce McCoy.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Wednesday at the Union McMinn Baptist Church.
