Gladys Aileen Cook Guffey Bishop, age 87, of Niota, went home to be with the lord on September 8, 2019, surrounded by her family at Sweetwater hospital.
A native of Monroe County and lifelong resident McMinn County, she was the daughter of the late Sarah Delsie Moses and Sherlin Cook; and preceded in death by her first husband Burkett Guffey; daughter; Karen Guffey; second husband; David Thomas Bishop; 2 sisters and 2 brother in laws; Imogean Cook and Fred Moses; Annie Mae Cook and Charlie Moses, 2 brothers and sister in law; Albert Cook, Jr. and Almedia Ferguson, Clarence Cook, and brother in law Bill Roderick.
Gladys loved Jesus and her gospel music. She was the most sweet lady you could have ever meet. Gladys retired from the Athens Bed Company, after working there for many years.

Sons and Spouses; Michael Bishop, Ricky Guffey, Donnie (Laura) Guffey,
Danny (Janie) Guffey.
Daughter and spouse; Sara and David Dodd.
Sister; Thelma (Alma Rae) Roderick
Brother and sister in law; Freddy and Virginia Cook
Grandchildren; Tiffany Bishop Sheldon, Amber Bishop, Adam Guffey,
Travis Guffey, Steven McKeown, Tylor McKeown, Chris Givens, Kevin Webb,
Stacy and Brad Nokes, Kaci and Vince Doane, Jonathan and Caitlyn Bishop,
Tony and Stephanie Bishop.
Seven great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 pm Thursday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with the Brother Anthony Wynn officiating. Burial will be in Etowah City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chris Givens, Nathan Webb, Brad Nokes, Tony Bishop, Jonathan Bishop, and Vince Doane.
The family will receive friends from Noon to 1 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
