James "Dean" Stokes

Passed away Monday, February 5, 2018
At Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga.
A native and lifelong resident of Meigs County, he was the son of the late Alton and Nina Campbell Stokes and was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Stokes; one brother, John Stokes; three sisters, Virginia Johnson, Midge Bates, and Shirley Hale. He was a former employee of the Meigs County Sheriff’s Department and retired from the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years,
Shirley Maxine Kennedy Stokes of Decatur
One son and daughter-in-law,
Bobby and Lisa Stokes of Milton, PA.
Five grandchildren: Brandon, Dillon, Jacqueline, Tyler and Stephanie
Two great grandchildren: Ella and Tyler
Three sisters and two brothers-in-law,
Lou York of Morristown
Sammie and Joe Womac of Riceville
Donna and David Sneed of Decatur
Graveside services will be 2:30 pm Saturday in Decatur Cemetery with the Rev. Jamey Davis officiating.
Pallbearers will be Travis Sneed, Stanley Welch, Sammy Welch, Mark Kennedy, Dustin Kennedy, and Justin Kennedy.
The family will receive friends 12-2 pm Saturday at the funeral home.
