Passed away Sunday, January 7, 2018

At Parkridge West Hospital in Jasper, TN.

 

A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was the son of the late Ernest Mason and was preceded in death by his step mother, Clota Mason; maternal grandparents, Ralph and Wanda Layman; paternal grandparents, Howard and Annie Mason; nephew, Chris Chadwell. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy for 11 years having served in Operation Desert Storm and was the I.T. Manager at H.P. Pelzer.

 

Jeff and Michelle shared a passion of riding Harley Davidson Motorcycles for the past 20 years together.

 

Survivors include the love of his life, his wife of 18 years,

Three cats: “Little Man”, “Miss Priss”, and “Little Bit”

Two birds:” Tango” and “Dusty”

One sister and brother-in-law,

   Cindy and Joe Winder of Athens

Step sister and spouse,

   Becky Perkins and husband, Dale of Etowah

Step brother and spouse,

   Randal Woods and wife, Michelle of Etowah

Mother,

   Linda Layman Tallent and husband, Edward of Madisonville

Father and mother-in-law,

   Richard and Linda McCowan of Athens

Two brothers-in-law and spouses,

   Kent McCowan and wife, Jennifer of Athens

   Keith McCowan and wife, Missy of Etowah

Several nieces and nephews.

 

Special mention to Jeff’s riding buddies whom were like brothers to him.

 

Funeral services will be 11 am Friday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with Brother Kevin Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in Sullins Cemetery.

 

Pallbearers will be Kent McCowan, Keith McCowan, Kevin Harris, Rudy Rideout, Philip Vorhies, and Dave Courtad.

 

The family will receive friends 5-8 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
