Passed away Sunday, January 7, 2018

At Sweetwater Hospital

A native of Sweetwater and longtime resident of Ten Mile, he was the son of the late Claude and Mildred McElhaney Hughes and was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Karen Johnson Hughes; brother, J.C. Hughes; sister, Dorothy Hughes.

 He loved his grandchildren and loved drag car racing. His hobby for drag car racing began in 1994, when his son began racing. Larry enjoyed building the drag cars alongside his son and helping at the tracks. He was an employee of Shaw Industries for 15 years and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law,

   Anissa and Tom Kelley of Middleburg, FL.

One son and daughter-in-law,

   Doug and Erika Hughes of Ten Mile

Two grandchildren: Mackenzie Kelley and Cassie Kelley

One sister,

   JoAnn Miller of Spring City

Two brothers and one sister-in-law,

   Nathan Hughes of Spring City

   Wayne and Pam Hughes of Ten Mile

Funeral services will be 11 am Wednesday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Curtis Porter officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Teddy Hughes, Adam Hughes, Danny Parton, Ricky Parton, Collin Thompson, and Russell Smith. Honorary pallbearer will be Scott Hughes.

The family will receive friends 6-9 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
