Nellie Lee (Gray) Clark

Nellie L. Gray Clark, age 87, of Athens, passed away Friday, January 19, 2018, at Starr Regional of Athens.

Born in Cleveland and a lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was a daughter of the late James Vernal Gray and Cora Marie Gregory Gray. She was also preceded in death by three brothers.

Nellie attended McMinn County High School where she played on the girls’ basketball team. She later went to work at Athens Hosiery Mill until her retirement.

Our mother is best described as a Proverbs 31 woman. She is clothed with strength and dignity, speaks wisdom, watches over the affairs of her household, her children call her blessed and her husband praises her. Our mother truly is worth more than rubies. She fears the Lord and is to be praised.

Nellie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Scott Buchanan of Decatur, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jerry Don and Linda Clark, of Athens, and Billy Jack Clark of Hampshire, TX.

Six grandchildren, Sarah and Tom Patton, Angela and Tracy Coleman, Casey and Lorrina Clark, John Clark, Courtney and Seth Duhon and Kade Clark.

Ten great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

 Private graveside services will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery. At Nellie’s request, there will be no formal visitation.
