Passed away Sunday, December 3, 2017

At Starr Regional Medical Center of Athens

A native of Chicago, IL. and longtime resident of Etowah, he was the son of the late Clarence and Pearl VanDell.  He was a former employee of McDonald’s Restaurant and was a member of West End Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years,

   Shirley Palmer VanDell of Etowah

Four daughters and two sons-in-law,

   Regina and Dale White of Decatur

   Rosi Farris of Etowah

   Rita McRae of Cleveland

   Wynell and Charles Miller of Raleigh, NC.

Two sons and one daughter-in-law,

   Rocky and Sharon McRae of Etowah

   Jason Hayes of Columbia, MO.

Nine grandchildren: Roxanne Parrish and husband, Thomas II, Shane Whittaker, Stacy Webb and husband, Ricky, Tanessa Bradley, Jessica Musnicki and husband, John, Darrio McRae, Makaylia White, Kaleb Buckner, and Matthew Hayes.

Nine great grandchildren: Dakota Whittaker, Kenny Smith, Chynne Whittaker, Summer Smith, Ethan Whittaker, Lance Whittaker, Autumn Smith, Lucas Bunch, and Easton Musnicki

Funeral services will be 3 pm Thursday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Van Elkins and Rev. Herman Jordan officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Webb, Eddie Smith, Kaleb Buckner, Thomas Parrish II, Kenny Smith, and Dakota Whittaker.

The family will receive friends 1-3 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
