Vernon D Stewart, 78, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 21, 2018 peacefully at his home in Athens, TN.
He was born in Madison County, KY. on November 26, 1939, to his late parents Noil Sr. and Altie Whittamore Stewart. Vernon was owner and operator of Stewart’s Heating and Air for many years until he was forced to retire from illness in 2016. He loved his family, who he thanked the Lord for every day, Nascar Racing, gospel music, and most importantly, studying his bible and talking with God. He was a resident of Athens since 1974 and was a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Moss Stewart and Noil Stewart Jr., three sisters, Helen Murphy, Elizabeth Webb, and Rosella Stewart all of Berea, KY.; a daughter who passed in infancy, Lisa Gail; three brothers-in-law, Harry Henley Jr., Glen Henley, and James Henley, and three sisters-in-law, Frankie Sue Henley, Sharon Harris, and Betty White.
Survivors include his loving wife of 44 years, Wanda Henley Stewart of Athens
One son, Randy Stewart and Chrissy McKheen, the mother of his children and her son, Matthew
Three daughters and sons-in-law,
Linda Cheryl” Corky” and Timothy Farrell of Niota
Cheryl “Missy” and Tim Heemskerk of Cleveland
Lisa and Greg Sturgill of Etowah
Seven grandchildren: Elisha Montgomery, Shasta Miller, Stephanie Barber, Hannah Stewart, Timothy Farrell, Nicholas Stewart, and Colby Pilkey
Five great grandchildren: Jace Farrell, Jacob Montgomery, Kaleb Stewart, Lucas Wilson, and Addyson Billings.
His brother, Henry Stewart and wife, Louenza of Richmond, Ky.

Funeral services will be 7 pm Wednesday at Freedom Baptist Church 2207 Velma Road, Athens, TN. 37303 with the Rev. Roy Hogan officiating. Burial will be 11 am Thursday in Sullins Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Timothy Farrell, Keith Harris, Tony Henley, Mark Harris, Nicholas Stewart and Colby Pilkey. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Barber and Kaleb Stewart.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Wednesday at Freedom Baptist Church, 2207 Velma Road Athens, TN. 37303.
