Violet Thurman Thomas, age 84, of Athens, passed away Saturday, December 8, 2018, at her residence.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was the daughter of the late Walter Robert and Dovie Swafford Thurman and was preceded in death by her husband; James Robert “Bob” Thomas and sisters; Velma Givens, Zella Howard and Mildred McKinney. She had retired from Charleston Hosiery after 23 years, and was a member of Short Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include; Daughter and son in law; Janet and Rex Gosnell of Athens.
Grandchildren; Rex Allen Gosnell, Jr. of Athens, SGT Matthew James Gosnell and spouse Michelle of Hinesville, GA, and Shawna Gosnell Watson of Vonore.
Three great grandsons; Matthew James Gosnell, Jr., Sean Aiden Gosnell, and Kyle Mitchell Gosnell.
Brother in law; Paul Thomas and spouse Jerri of Colorado Springs, CO
Several Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Wednesday at Short Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Lewis Officiating. The body will lie in state for 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Short Creek Cemetery.
Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
