Betty Lou Carter Vaughn, age 86, passed away on Saturday, October 28, at her residence. She was a member of Short Creek Baptist Church. Betty retired from Mayfield Dairy Farms, was a 4-H leader for many years, and loved to travel around the world.
A resident of the Shiloh community in Decatur, she was a daughter of the late A.E. and Dorothy Dennis Carter. She is further preceded by brothers: David Carter and Jim Carter, and sisters: Faye Carter Farmer and Gail Carter.
Betty is survived by her husband: Lowell Vaughn of Decatur, daughter: Tammy Phillips (Mac) of Chattanooga, sons: Dewayne Vaughn (Meleah) of Dothan, AL, and Jeff Vaughn of Cleveland, sister: Debbie Carter Smith (Dan) of Decatur, 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law: Frances Carter and Faye Carter, brothers-in-law: Leuty Vaughn (Pearline), Jimmy Vaughn (Marilyn), and Curtis Vaughn (Norma), along with several nieces and nephews who knew her as “Lou-Lou”.
Funeral services will be 12:00 PM Wednesday, November 1, at Short Creek Baptist Church with Brother Will Davis and Brother Eric Garren officiating.
Interment will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery with Betty’s nephews serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM Wednesday, prior to the funeral service at Short Creek Baptist Church.
