Betty Jane (McElhaney) West

Betty Jane McElhaney West, age 84, native and lifelong resident of Meigs County, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2026. She loved to watch her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. Betty also loved to quilt and was a longtime member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Robert and Bessie Leffew McElhaney, a daughter: Brenda Gail West, a son: Jerry Franklin West, brothers: Buck, Sam, Kenneth, Boyd, and Lester McElhaney, and her sisters: Bonnie Harrison, Mildred Hughes, and Flo Sitzler.

Betty is survived by her loving husband of 62 years: Robert West, daughters: Patsy (Joseph) Cardwell and Bonnie Marie Watson, grandchildren: Brandon Cardwell, Robert Cardwell, Dustin Watson, Brittaney Powers, Cheyanne Watson, Joy West, and Sam Raby, twelve great-grandchildren, a sister: Lennie (Gene) West, along with several nieces and nephews.  

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 PM on Friday, June 12, 2026, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with a funeral service at 3:00 PM. Reverend Elijah Pickle will be officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Betty’s grandsons will be serving as pallbearers.
