Clarence William Sweat, age 89, a native of Lafollette and longtime resident of McMinn County, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. He was the owner/operator of Mobil, Union 76, and Shell gas stations in Athens. Clarence also coached baseball teams and loved to play golf.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Casper and Ethel Violet Sweat, and his siblings: Bonnie Maxwell, Clayton Sweat, Opal Ward, Leon Sweat, Louie Sweat, and Carolene Bogard.
Clarence is survived by his wife of 57years: Sue Mullis Sweat, his daughter: Amanda Herndon (Brian), sons: Doyle Sweat and William “Buddy” Sweat (Amanda Kozak), his grandchildren: Jessica Monroe, Justin Sweat, Lacey Jeffers, Heath Givens, Codi Tillman, Montana Sweat, and Haley Duncan, great-grandchildren: Ashlyn Sweat, Brittany Sweat, and Mavery Milligan, siblings: Nadine Morris and Earl Maxwell, along with several special friends.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Cedar Grove Cemetery with Brother Jerry Stephens officiating.
Michael Earls, Stephen Watson, James Frazier, Steven Forsyth, Buddy Sweat, Heath Givens, and Codi Tillman will serve as pallbearers.
