DELLA "SUE" BARNES Obituary

Della "Sue" Farmer Barnes, 81, of the Hillsview/Short Creek Community went home to be with her Lord at her residence on Saturday morning, April 4, 2020.

A native and lifelong resident of Riceville, TN. Sue was the daughter of the late Lester and Thelma Kibble Farmer. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Farmer, her daughter in law, Karen Jennings Combs, and one grandson, Seth Combs. She was much loved by the family who survived her, two sons and one daughter in law, Jeff and JoAnn Combs of Riceville and Jerry Combs of Decatur. One sister and brother in law Melba and Bill Lee of Murfreesboro, and 4 grandchildren that she was extremely proud of, Kevin Combs of Hollywood, FL. Ryan Combs of Portland, OR, and Courtney and Natalee Combs of Decatur, TN. She also had nieces and a nephew that held a special place in her heart, Donna Johnson, Lisa Farmer, and Greg Farmer, along with many other special friends and family.

Sue was an avid sports fan, a lover of all plants and flowers, the picture taking queen and the family and community historian. If you needed some information, Sue was the go-to person. She loved all things Tennessee, especially Pat Summitt and the Lady Vols. She was her grandchildren's biggest supporter. Nothing would make "Mamaw Sue" happier than to hear her grandson Kevin playing the piano or cheering on Ryan, Courtney and Natallee at their sporting events. Any time her grandchildren had an event, she was there, always, if she was able. Although she loved her grandchildren dearly, it could be argued that she loved flowers, pictures, and the Lady Vols just a little bit more:)

She worked at Athens Products and retired from there after several years of service.

Sue was saved and joined Short Creek Church at age 13. She was a beloved member of Short Creek Baptist where she held many titles.

Due to the current condition of our country and community and out of concern for the safety of others, we have decided to forego the receiving of friends at this time. We may have a Celebration of Life memorial service at a later date. Jimmy Lewis and Will Davis will be officiating the private graveside service that will be on Tuesday April 7, 2020. Pallbearers are Steve Farmer, Grant farmer, Jimmy Ledford, Franklin Billingsley, Lewis Teague, and Eddie Smith. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Short Creek Baptist Church cemetery fund.
