Ernest “Ernie” Thanuel Womack, Sr., SFC US Army (Retired), age 87, longtime resident of McMinn County, passed away on July 6, 2024, at Terra Bella Assisted Living of Athens. Ernie was later employed with Texas Hydraulics and retired from TVA at Watts Bar as a public safety officer. He was also a member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church in Riceville.
Ernie is preceded in death by his parents: James Samuel and Lillie B Roderick Womack, his wife of 59 years: Frances Ruth Marney Womack, daughter: Connie V. Womack, along with several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his daughter: Tina Womack Hiefnar, a son: Ernest Thanuel Womack, Jr., grandchildren: Amanda Shelton (Casey), April Hiefnar, and Amber Hiefnar, great-grandchildren: Petty Officer First Class Jackson “Blake” Sewell, USN, his wife Victoria and their son, Abraham, Race Robison, Jude Womer, Jaxon Womer, Jesse Womer, Khan Kirby, and Joelle Kirby.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 13, 2024, from 11:00-1:00 PM at Ziegler Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM in the funeral home with Reverend Garry King officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow the funeral services at Upper Spring Creek Cemetery in Riceville.
