Ernestine ‘Ernie’ Wattenbarger Crabtree, age 73, of Niota, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 23, 2022.
Ernie was a longtime resident of McMinn County. She was the daughter of fathers James Wattenbarger and Fred Self, and mother Catherine Vance Peak. She was also preceded by sister Lois Shirk and brother James “Jimmy” Wattenbarger.
Ernie worked as a manager at area Jiffy stores for many years. She dedicated her time to her kids and organizing the Riceville Youth League.
Ernie was known around Niota for her glorious garden and professional level cooking skills. She was the community mom and had the house to be at.
Ernie is survived by
Daughter Christy Miu of Athens;
Sons Freddy Crabtree and wife Donna Crabtree of Sweetwater, Andy Crabtree of Niota, and Alex Cansler of Niota;
Sister Juanita Cardin of Niota;
Grandchildren Krysta Crabtree, Skye Miu Steppe and husband Josh Steppe, Christian Creaseman, and Andy “Drew” Crabtree Jr;
6 Great Grandchildren many Nieces & Nephews.
Funeral Services will be at 7 PM Thursday, October 27, 2022, at Ziegler Funeral Home.
Interment will be at 11AM Friday, October 28, 2022, at Niota Cemetery.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 PM Thursday.
