We are sad to announce the passing of George Edward 'Hank' Beisel III who passed away in his sleep at home on Sunday, July 24, 2022. As fate would have it, Hank — as he was known by those who knew him well — left this realm just shy of celebrating his 69th birthday. He truly lived his life to the fullest and brought his share of mischief and joy to this world. He will not be forgotten and passed too soon.
Born in July of 1953, in Columbia, South Carolina, to Bert and George Beisel, Hank was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He grew up in Marietta, Georgia. In his early years, he was chosen for the Junior Olympics in the boys 13-14 division for the 200 Meter Individual Medley. His best time was 1:62.2. Like many others, Hank didn’t make it to the Olympics, but he continued to love swimming and turned into a kid every time he got into a pool. Papa Hank as he was known to his two grandsons have followed in his love of aquatics.
Hank left behind his collection of beautiful gems he had collected or mined over the years. He also enjoyed several other hobbies, each requiring patience and delivering the promise of an unknown outcome: winemaking (usually 90 proof or so), candle making, carpentry, and metal casting, and woodworking. Hank also had a passion for music spanning generations, some of his favorites included Bob Dylan, Frank Zappa, The Allman Brothers, Tom Petty, In the Court of King Crimson, Blonde on Blonde, the Doors, Strange Days, and Commander Cody, to name a few.
Hank will be deeply missed by those he left behind. He is survived by his wife, Jackie Brown; daughter, Sara Blackstock (Beisel) and son-in-law John Blackstock (Sara); mother, Bert Beisel; brother, Tom Beisel and sister-in-law Lola Carlisle; sister, Savany Demmink and brother-in-law Paul Demmink; mother-in-law, Patsy Brown; brother-in-law, James Brown and sister-in-law Joy Brown; sister-in-law Debra Brown; two grandsons, John Matthew Blackstock II and Geoffrey Edward Blackstock; cousins, Darden Harrington and Jane Braun; his three nieces, Anneka Demmick, Liles Demmick, and Carlie Beisel; his cat, Whitie and his beloved dog, Red.
Hank was preceded in death by his father, George Edward Beisel, II and his father-in-law, Bobby Brown.
Graveside services will be at 11 AM Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Sunrise Cemetery with Lay Speaker Glen Standridge officiating.
Following the service, family and friends of Hank’s will gather at 556 Julian Road Northeast Cleveland, TN 37323 to commemorate Hank’s life.
