Glenda “Kaye” Charles Wattenbarger, age 74, lifelong resident of Athens, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. She was a member of West End Baptist Church. She was a devoted grandmother who helped raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Kaye loved to cook and worked for many years in a local grocery store deli/bakery.
She is preceded by her parents: Clifford and Burnella “Sis” Daugherty Charles, husband: Roy Lee Wattenbarger, son: Troy “Keith” Wattenbarger, sisters: Wanda Barnes and Betty Lunsford, and brothers: Donny Dean Charles, Johnny Oscar “J.O.” Charles, and Kenneth Charles.
Kaye is survived by her daughter: Dana Stanley (Tim) of Athens, sisters: Estalene Deakin of Etowah, Peggy Smith of Etowah, Mary Ellen Wilson (Mack) of Sweetwater, and brother: Denny Charles (Jerri) of Athens, grandchildren: Brandon Wattenbarger (Alyssa), Tyler Wattenbarger (Haley), Nikki Brice (Thomas), Danielle Buff, Morgan Stanley, Haley Stanley, T.J. Stanley and Travis Stanley, great-grandchildren: Aiden, Larkin, Sadie, Raelynn, Kinley, Khloe, Remi, Baylor and Houston.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Ziegler Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 PM at the funeral home with Brother Jerry Stephens officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 9, 2023, at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Athens.
Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
