Ida Elizabeth Abernathy Scruggs, age 64 of Athens, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville.
Ida was born in Athens and lifelong resident of McMinn County. She was the daughter of Evelyn Imogene Abernathy. She was also preceded in death by sister Brooke Linder, son Robert “Buddy” Moore and nephew Jan Abernathy.
Ida graduated from McMinn County High School and later became a LPN COHC. Ida worked for the Hope Center for many years and was currently working at Athens Place. Ida was a loving, honest and beautiful mother, sister and friend.
Ida is survived by
Daughters Courtney Abernathy-Brown and Andrea Scruggs-Stewart;
Daughter-In-Law Deborah Scruggs-Moore;
Grandchildren Gavin Abernathy, Allyson Abernathy, Cierra Cureton, Caya Cureton, Robert Scruggs, Taheim Scruggs, Treasur Stewart, Romelo Stewart and Tabre Abernathy;
5 Great Grandchildren;
Siblings Deborah Johnson, Bernice Gutierrez, Nanette Porter, Julius Porter, John Porter, Kim Jones, Julia White, Alex Porter, Blanche Kibodeaux, Mary Polk and Damon Porter;
A host of Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces and Great Nephews, Cousins and Friends.
Ida “Boo” Scruggs will be greatly missed by all the people she touched with her beautiful heart and sweet soul.
The family will receive friends from 12 – 1 PM, Monday April 25, 2022 at Ziegler Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will follow at 1 PM with Rev. Larry Saunders officiating.
