James Thomas “J.T.” Byrum, age 91, lifelong resident of Athens, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024. He was a member of the Living Church of God in Etowah. J.T. retired from Plastic Industries where he was the head of the maintenance department, and then later worked for Lowe’s and Wal-Mart.
He is preceded by his father and stepmother: Roy Clarence and Sue Byrum, and mother and stepfather: Stella Parris and Charles Stewart, his brothers: Clarence Byrum and Gene Byrum, and former wives: Anna Mae Richardson Byrum and Linda Turner Byrum.
J.T. is survived by his daughter: Brenda Day (Ray), sons: Rickie Byrum (Bertha) and Steve Byrum (Alice), grandchildren: Melissa Key, Tammy Roderick, Amy West, Heather Robbins (Josh), Michael Byrum (Kim), Lisha Dugan (Scott), and Scott Corum, along with 11 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Ziegler Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 PM at the funeral home with Elder Fannin officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 21, 2023, at McMinn Memory Gardens.
Justin Roderick, Zack Roderick, Sequoyah Kilts, Bryce Robbins, Michael Byrum and Josh Robbins will serve as pallbearers.
