James Edward "Ed" Yates

James Edward “Ed” Yates, age 87, a native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. He was a member of Short Creek Baptist Church.

He is proceeded in death by his parents: James M. and Vernie Cleo Richeson Yates, a nephew: Carthell Rogers, and a great-niece: Ashley Rogers.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 54 years: Joyce Powell Yates, his sister-in-law: Greta Steward, nieces: Sheila Hall (Calen) and Pamela Rogers, and great-nephew: Matthew Rogers.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 6, 2025, from 1:00-3:00 PM at Ziegler Funeral Home with a funeral service to follow at 3:00 PM. Interment will follow funeral services at Foster Cemetery in Niota with Reverend Jimmy Lewis and Reverend Vic King officiating.   

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
