James Daniel “Danny” Garren, age 76, born in Madisonville and longtime resident of Etowah, passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. Danny served in the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborne Division and was stationed in Bambi Tuit, Vietnam where he served as a Green Beret. Later in life, he was also a long-haul truck driver and retired as safety director.
He was a son of the late John Luther and Josephine Daniel Garren. He is also preceded by his daughter: Caryn Bowman, son: Gary K. Jack, and an infant brother: Jerry Wayne Garren.
Danny is survived by his loving wife of 39 years: Gerra Walker Garren, daughters: Shannon Crowder and Gail Wilkey (Rick), son: Kevin Garren, and five grandchildren: Jordan Garren, Waylon Morgan, Jacob Crowder, Jesse Wilkey (Taylor), and Cam Wilkey (Jessica), great-grandchildren: Jax C. Wilkey, Jase C. Wilkey, Jacob C. Wilkey, Silas J. Wilkey, and Natalie J. Wilkey.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Ziegler Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Malone Cemetery in Athens.
Jordan Garren, Waylon Morgan, Jacob Crowder, Jesse Wilkey, and Cam Wilkey will serve as pallbearers.
