Janice “Jan” Sue Burton Taylor, age 71, of Athens, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville.
Janice was a native of Athens and lifelong resident of McMinn County. She was a daughter of the late Charles and Geraldine Rowland Burton whom were of the Burton Family Quartet. She was also proceeded in death by sister Judy Payne, brothers-in-law Grady Smith I, Bro Roy Hogan, and nephew Grady Smith II.
Janice was very active and involved at Freedom Baptist Church. She taught Children’s Church and was active in the yearly Bible School activities. She was dearly loved by her family and church family.
Janice is survived by
Daughter Tammy Cook of Knoxville;
Grandchildren Sophie Cook of Asheville, NC and Jake Cook of Knoxville;
Sisters Jamia Hogan of Athens and JoAnne Smith of Reliance;
Nephews Cary Hogan (Missy) of Mt. Juliet, Andrew Hogan (Laurie) of High Point, NC, and Charlie Smith of Reliance;
Niece Paula Grant (Mike) of Tellico Plains;
Several Great Nieces and Great Nephews.
Funeral Services will be at 7 PM Thursday, May 26, 2022, at Freedom Baptist Church with Bro. Cary Hogan, Bro. Chris Leonard and Bro. Chad Oody officiating.
Interment will be at 2 PM Friday, May 27, 2022, in McMinn Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jake Cook, Caleb Hogan, Cameron Hogan, CJ Hogan, Christopher Smith and Matthew Smith.
