Janie Rose (Coleman) King, 82, of Athens TN, left this world for the gates of Heaven on Sunday January 28th, 2024. She is preceded by her parents Fred and Celia Hacker Coleman, brothers Freddie and Johnny Coleman, and niece Rosanne Coleman.
She had a classical country upbringing in a very musical family where Gospel music was prevalent. Janie attended High School in McMinn County. Soon after school, she married her high school sweetheart, Ray King, then came along her daughter, Sherry and son, Anthony.
She was a hard worker her whole life. Janie started working at a soda shop while in school, then as a seamstress and product manager at Robet Mfg., making uniforms for the military. She later started her own cleaning service in Athens. Her motto was “Why hire it done when I can do it myself?”. We would always describe our mom as having the ability to work circles around us.
She was passionate about the Lord and a devoted member of Woodward Avenue Church of God. She loved her family more than life itself, always bragging about her children.
Very selfless, she was always concerned more with the needs and wishes of others than her own. She would bake pies, spend hours at nursing homes, take gifts to others, and make them smile.
Our Mom was filled with a passion for living, full of spice and spirit. Mom always said, “Live and do what you want to do today, cause tomorrow never comes”.
She loved the outdoors, always working in her yard, driving while listening to music, playing piano, dancing and singing karaoke.
We will always remember her classical sayings:
“You ain’t gonna like what I’m about to say, but I’m gonna say it anyway.”
“Now Just Listen”
“Well, it’s about time.”
Her favorite song was “California Blue” by Roy Orbison
She is survived by her children Sherry (Edwin) and Anthony (Lori), her four grandkids – Trey and Cassy Clendenen, Bailey and Brooke King, nephews Donnie and Lance Coleman, sister-in-law Joanne Coleman.
