John Robert “Rob” Camper, 76, passed away Saturday January 20th, 2024, in Athens, TN. He was born May 18, 1947, and was the son of Oscar and Mabel Camper. He grew up in Kingsport, TN and graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 1966.
He attended the University of Tennessee for one year. He served four in the U.S. Air Force, during which he was deployed to Thailand for 13 months. After his time in the Air Force, he graduated from East Tennessee State University, with a degree in Public Health and Safety. He worked in that field for many years.
He grew up in St. Matthew United Methodist Church and was a long-time member of Mountain View United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, Rob was preceded in death by his wife, Pam Lauderback Camper, in 1991. He is survived by two daughters: Courtney (Jason) Campbell, of Elizabethton, TN, and their children Sophie, Alex, and Taylor; and Katie (Kale) Belk of Athens, TN, and their children Lily, Maggie, and Rhett; his mother-in-law, Cora Lauderback, brothers-in-law Klyne and Eddie Lauderback, sister-in-law Linda Bays, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Betsy West, and stepson, Will Van Zonneveld.
