John Earl Dake

John Earl Dake, age 58, of Athens, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep at his home on Saturday, August 3, 2024.

He loved working on the family farm and was a member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father: Conley Dake, a sister: Karen Dake, maternal grandparents: James Gilford and Clio Hutsell Layman, paternal grandparents: Hilton and Pearl Gibson Dake.

John is survived by his mother; Hazel Layman Dake,

Brothers: James Dake (Pattie Hall) and Herb Dake (Hailey)

Sister: Diane Woodward

Nieces and nephews; Megan Henley (Matt), Makayla Akens (Hayden), Andrew Woodward, McKenna Woodward, Eli Dake, Seth Dake, and Noah Dake.  Great nephews: Tucker Henley and Briar Henley.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 PM on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Ziegler Funeral Home.  Funeral services will follow at 2 PM with Rev. Bert Beria and Rev. Adam Sutton officiating.  Interment will follow at Union Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Rex King, Richard Layman, Matt Henley, Hayden Akens, Eli Dake, and Andrew Woodward.
