John Robert Roby Jr, Age 71, of Athens TN, gained his heavenly wings on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on December 27, 1952, in Margate, England where his dad, John Robert Roby Sr, was stationed in the Air Force. He married his wife, Sherri, on September 18, 1976, in the small town of Athens, Alabama, 47 years ago. John retired after 30 years in operations and training from TVA Watts Bar Nuclear Plant. There he formed many friendships that he spoke of often. He enjoyed spending time with family, being at the golf course, cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide, and listening to all types of music. He was known for never meeting a stranger, he could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, anytime. He also cherished and spoke fondly of the friendships he formed while serving in the Cleveland Emmaus Community. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Cleveland, where he enjoyed growing his faith and worshipping his Lord and Savior. John had a special way of touching people’s lives in a way that only he could do. John was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
John is preceded by his parents: John Robert Roby, Sr, and Kathleen Alexander Roby.
He is survived by his loving wife: Sherri Williams Roby, daughters: Christi Roby Derrick and Lauryn Roby O’Boyle (Brenden), his son: Patrick Roby (Tori), grandchildren: Stetson Roby, Jason Derrick, Brianna Carroll, Riley Derrick, great-grandchild: Ella Vasquez, and his brother: Stewart Roby (Shelia).
Family, friends, and others whose lives John touched are invited to the visitation from 4:00 PM-6:00 PM on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Hopewell Church of God in Cleveland, TN. A memorial service will follow at 6:00 PM at the church to reminisce and celebrate his life. David O’Boyle will be officiating.
