Kenneth Sherman Obituary

Kenneth Bradford “Brad” Sherman, age 69, of Athens, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, 23 June 2022. Born and raised in Green Springs, Ohio he attended Green Springs (Clyde) High School. Brad went on to serve his country in the United States Army, on active duty from Aug 1970 to Apr 1972 assigned to 178th ASHC, 212th CAB VN, USARPAC as a Door Gunner.  Bravely serving in Vietnam from 29 Mar 1971 to 11 Feb 1972, with decorated accommodations of National Defense Service Medal (NDSM), Vietnam Service Medal (VSM), Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal (RVCM).  Brad was honorably discharged serving in the reserves until 1976.  In 1974 he then took to the open road across country to California to explore the northern Sierra Nevada Mountain range of the Feather River at Berry Creek, later settling in the warm, sunny coastal area of San Diego. This is where he became and continued to be a dedicated football fan of the San Diego Chargers.

He respectfully dedicated 32 years in the civil service working for the Department of Defense as an Environmental Protection Specialist serving the Marines, Sailors, and their families aboard Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton.  After retiring from civil service, he let the road again take him to the great volunteer state of Tennessee where he enjoyed golfing, riding his Harley-Davidson acting as President of the VFW Riders Club, and supporting his fellow veterans as an officer of VFW Post 5146.

He is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Eugene Sherman and mother, Juanita Sherman Wadsworth.

Brad is survived by his siblings (spouses) Connie (Dave) Carrothers, Tom (Micki) Sherman, Dean Sherman, step-sister Cinda Wadsworth (Bob) Swerlein, step-brothers Gary (Pixie) Wadsworth and Larry (Diane) Wadsworth, his beloved wife Linda Moses Sherman, children Joshua (Marlo) Sherman, Jessica (Mark) Samples, and Dustin (Denise) Sherman, step-daughter Kimberly Harris, step-son Tim Harris, adored grandchildren Ryland & Rio Sherman, William & Sylvie Samples, Trevor (Krista) Burns, cherished nieces and nephews, and countless dear friends who he always considered family.

As a Vietnam Veteran and the kind, generous spirit he was, Brad made it his duty to always help fellow veterans and those in need. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to be made to the following charities in Brad’s honor:
