Laura Frances Johnson Faris, 67, passed away at home in Athens on the morning of February 2, 2024. She was born on September 23, 1956, in Athens, TN to Jack and Betty Ross Scott Johnson who both preceded her in death.
Laura is survived by her husband, Steve Faris, of Athens; daughter, Tara McKenzie Hutsell, of West Memphis; sisters, Jennifer J (Emerson) Sharpe of Kingsport, TN.; and Mary Jill Johnson of Cookeville, TN; nephew, Dr. Emerson E (Kaylyn) Sharpe III of Denver, CO; niece, McKenzie S (Dr. Ryan) Hutchinson and their children Beckett and Eliza of Nashville; sisters-in-law, Linda Chesnutt, and Carol Roberts.
Laura was very talented. She was a long-time student of dance and a beautiful ballerina. She graduated from McMinn Co. High School where she was a head majorette in the band. She attended Carson Newman college on a majorette scholarship and was also offered one to UT. She loved to write poetry and even wrote songs for artists at the Bluebird Cafe. She was an excellent seamstress and could make an outfit at night to wear to school the next day. She loved her cats. Laura, or Lolly to some, was friendly and lively and could light up a room.
Arrangements are incomplete at this time.
Memorial contributions may be made to the McMinn Regional Humane Society or Athens Animal Shelter.
