Lydia Wiseman (Basic) Burke

Lydia Basic Wiseman Burke, age 75, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Etowah Health Care Center. She was born in Spietal, Austria and a former resident of Cleveland, OH prior to moving to Athens in 1988. Lydia was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was retired from NHC in Athens.

Lydia was a daughter of the late Avdo Basic and Hilda Sucevic Basic. She is also preceded by her former husband: Jesse Wiseman, husband and love of her life: Jack Burke, son: Jesse Wiseman, Jr., sisters: Barbara Black, Emmylou Casper, and Selma Basic, and brothers: Andrew Basic, Stephen Basic, and Salih Basic.

She is survived by daughters: Bernadette (Steve) Vargo of Streetsboro, OH, and Donna Lamb of Athens, sons: Stephen Wiseman and Thomas (Martha) Wiseman, 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.   

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM on Friday, November 10, 2023, at Ziegler Funeral Home. Directly after the visitation, a graveside service will be held at Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Lydia’s sons: Thomas Wiseman and Stephen Wiseman, grandsons: Jonathan Wiseman, Josef Wiseman, Arthur “A.J.” Wiseman, and great grandson: Caleb Ware will serve as pallbearers.
