Margaret Jane Malone Cornett, 79, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville. She was a native of Athens. She was a member of Mt. Verd Baptist Church and a retired employee from McKeehan Chair Company.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Raymond Malone and Mary Rose White Burger, two sisters Barbara Lodine Malone and Shelia Gibson, first husband Billy Atchley and second husband Albert Cornett along with a granddaughter, Melina Viasan.
Margaret is survived by her daughters, Debbie Ponce (Orlando) of Chester, Maryland, and Brenda Hall (Bill) of Athens, and sons, Ricky Atchley (Tina), Tony Atchley (Mary), and Albert Cornett, all of Athens. She is also survived by her grandchildren, William Hall, Matthew Hall, Ana Ponce, Salvador Macias, Jesse Atchley, Jessica Atchley, Dustin Atchley, Hillery Atchley, and 14 great-grandchildren. Margaret is additionally survived by sisters, Shirley Gregory of Culman, Alabama, Bernice Axley of Athens, and Darlene Hale of Athens, and brothers, Bob Malone of Athens, Danny Malone of Athens, Eugene Coleman of Englewood, James Coleman of Chattanooga, and Charles Burger of Nashville.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 1, 2023, from 11:00-1:00 PM and a funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Home with Pastor Donnie Dalton officiating. Interment will follow directly after the service at McMinn Memory Gardens in Athens, Tennessee.
Serving as pallbearers will be William Hall, Jesse Atchley, Matthew Hall, Dustin Atchley, and Bill Hall along with deacons of Mount Verd Baptist Church.
