Michael Edward “Eddie” Hughes, age 68, of Athens, died Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville. Eddie was a lifelong resident of McMinn County and was preceded in death by his father Carl Edward Hughes and mother Joyce Mae Hughes O’Daniel.
He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a deacon. Eddie served in the TN Army National Guard and was retired from Mayfield’s Dairy Plant. Eddie always had a kind smile. He enjoyed fishing and going to the mountains, but he truly loved his family.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Wednesday, November 03, 2021, at Ziegler Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Gamble and Jacob Walker officiating. Interment will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens with military honors. Serving as pallbearers will be Dennis Harris, Alex Hughes, Jacob Walker, Ryan Russell, Tim Smith, Andrew Hughes, Michael Wilder and Jonathan Williams. Honorary Pallbearer will be Tyler Young.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, November 02, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Home.
