Mildred Scroggins Hickman, age 91, a native of Meigs County and longtime resident of Ooltewah and Decatur, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026. She had been a member of Harrison Methodist Church and Goodfield Methodist Church.
She retired in 1987 from Provident Life & Accident Company after 37 years. She started in the Franchise Department and later moved into Office Procedures as management and later was a Systems Analyst in many departments. Mildred spent the last five years at Provident in Human Resources.
In 1987, she and her son, Tim, opened the first Badcock Furniture Company in the state of Tennessee, in Athens.
Mildred and her son, Tim, started Hickman Advertising Agency in 1998. They later sold the business, and it still operates today under a different name.
She is preceded in death by her parents: William Ernest and Flossie Falls Scroggins, her husband: John R. Hickman, and a brother: Charles Scroggins.
Mildred is survived by her son: Tim Hickman (Lori Monroe) of Decatur.
Graveside services will be held at Decatur Cemetery on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 2:00 PM, with Reverend Jeff Redman officiating.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
