Nell Walker Womack Brady, 94, of Athens, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, December 28th after a lengthy illness.
She was a lifelong resident of McMinn County, and was the daughter of the late William Martin Walker, Sr. and Ollie Mae Bledsoe Walker. She was preceded in death by her first husband: Charles Wiley Womack and second husband: Emerson Wesley Brady, brothers: William Martin Walker, Jr., Dan Walker, David Walker and sister: Margaret Walker Womack, and sons-in-law: Dick Brady and Michael Stamey,
Nell was a member of Eastanallee Baptist Church, where for many years she taught a lady’s Sunday School class and helped in the Nursery and Vacation Bible School. Many will remember Nell as a cafeteria worker at Riceville Elementary School, Life Care Center of Athens, and Mouse Creek Nursery. Nell was an avid gardener and an amazing cook. Her family and extended family were blessed with Nell’s help with babysitting and loving caregiving to so many in her family and extended family.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Curtis and Rhonda Womack of Athens, Larry and Bobbie Womack of Mt. Vernon, KY; one daughter: Debbie Womack Stamey of Knoxville, two step-daughters: Diane (Joe) Fetzer, Janie (Jeff) Wiseman, and step-son: Sam Brady and step daughter-in-law: Linda Brady, four grandsons: Seth (Tera) Womack, Gabe (Melissa) Womack, Justin (Brittany) Stamey, and Luke (Taylor) Womack, three granddaughters: Lindsey (Thomas) Boyd, Lydia (Garret) Wilson, and Alison (Cody) Bull; three great-grandsons and six great-granddaughters and several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren, brother: Lake (Sue) Walker, and sisters: Nancy (Harold) Haun, Rose Hambright and Carolyn (Delano) Goforth.
The family would like to thank Nell’s caregivers, Rebecca Lowery and Family and Faith Home Care for the loving care they provided.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Zigler Funeral home in Athens, TN with a funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Lake Walker officiating. Interment will follow at Upper Spring Creek Cemetery in Riceville, TN.
Pallbearers will be: Seth Womack, Gabe Womack, Justin Stamey, Luke Womack, Thomas Boyd, Cody Bull and Garret Wilson.
In Lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Eastanallee Baptist Church Bldg. Fund, P.O. Box 3148, Riceville, TN 37370.
