Shirley Jean Whaley McCracken, age 78, of Decatur, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville.
Shirley was a native and lifelong resident of Meigs County. She was a daughter of the late Clyde and Gladys Galyon Whaley. She was also preceded by infant son Timothy John McCracken, great grandson Pierson Chase Brown, and brother Kenneth Whaley.
Shirley was a member of Short Creek Baptist Church and worked for Sliger’s Jewelers and Picture Perfect.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 59 years Johnny McCracken;
Daughter Lori McCracken (Elliott) of Decatur;
Son Darren McCracken (Mina) of Athens;
Grandchildren Megan Brown (Kirkland) of Knoxville, McKayla Elliott of Decatur, Carter Elliott of Decatur, and Sean McCracken of Athens;
Great Grandchildren Hansen Brown and Annistyn Brown;
Sister Carolyn Burris of Calhoun;
Brother Clyde “Bo” Whaley (Sandra) of Bethpage;
Sister-In-Law Paulette Whaley of Portland;
Several Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral Services will be at 4 PM Sunday, October 23, 2022, at Short Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Will Davis and Rev. Jimmy Lewis officiating. Interment will follow at Short Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mickey McCracken, Aaron McCracken, Matt Whitlatch, Kirkland Brown, Jamey Roberts, and Jonathan Pierce.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Scott Campbell, Carter Elliott, and Sean McCracken
The family will receive friends from 1 – 4 PM Sunday.
