Shirley Maxine Kennedy Stokes, of Decatur, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family at The University of Tennessee Medical Center on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. She was employed with Athens Table Company and Duck Head Apparel in quality control. Shirley was a member of Concord United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years: James “Dean” Stokes, her parents: Willard and Bessie Kinser Kennedy, a son: Jeffery Dean Stokes, sisters: Bonnie Sue Ricker, Martha Ann Patterson, Alice Becky Kennedy, and Patsy Kennedy, and brothers: Ricky Lynn Kennedy, Clarence Bud Kennedy, and John Eddie Kennedy.
Shirley is survived by a son: Bobby Stokes (Lisa), grandchildren: Brandon, Dillon, Jacqueline, Tyler and Stephanie, great-grandchildren: Ella and Tyler, sisters: Mildred Broden and Mary Ruth Kennedy, and a brother: James Douglas Kennedy.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 9, 2024, from 12:00-2:00 PM at Ziegler Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 2:30 at Decatur Cemetery with Reverend Jamie Davis officiating.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
