Virginia Carolyn Deakin Gibbs, age 77, of Athens, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, in the Morristown-Hamblen Hospital. A native of Calhoun, and long-time resident of McMinn County, she was a daughter of the late Chester and Bertha Leamon Deakin and was also preceded by a sister Marjorie Morgan and brother Bob Deakin.
She retired from NHC of Athens. Virginia was a devout Christian lady, who loved the Lord. She was active in several churches until her health prevented her from attending.
She is survived by the love of her life for over 38 years, Bobby Price of Athens,
daughter, Vivian “Lulu” Bishop (Bill) of Whitesburg,
stepdaughter, Pamela Moses of Athens,
the true joys of her life (her grandchildren): Jenny Simmons (Luke) of Mahomet, IL, Brent Watson of Whitesburg, Robby Moses of Niota, Katie Curtis and Billy Curtis of Athens,
great-grandchildren Nolan Watson and Hudson Simmons,
sister, Elizabeth Walker of Riceville, and her best lifelong friend, Joan Cannon of Athens.
Friends and family will gather at 1:00 PM on Monday, June 12 at McMinn Memory Gardens for a graveside service with Tyler Forrest officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St Jude Children's Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105 or the charity of your choice.
