Wendell Allen Cate, age 54, native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, went to be with the Lord and his “Pop” on Monday, October 21, 2024. He was a farmer and co-owner of “the Meatin’ Place”.
He was preceded in death by his loving father: Delbert Cate and his mother-in-law: Sandy Newman.
Left to cherish Wendell’s memory: his loving wife of 29 years: Sallie Newman Cate, mother: June Allen Cate, in-laws: Eddie and Claudia Newman, son: Zack Cate (Katherine), daughter: Abbie Cate, grandchildren: Mackenzie, Benjamin, Anslee, Zachary Jr, and Brooks Cate, sister: Karen Fleury (Aaron), special niece: Tara Fleury Bridges (Jeff) and great nephew: Sullivan Bridges, brother-in-law: Joey Newman (Kelly), special cousins: Tony and Tammy Huskey, Dan and the late Delisa Hartman, Shelley and Billy Trentham, good friends: Bo Carroll, Dave Duncan, and countless others who knew, loved and depended on him.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Ziegler Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will then follow at 11:00 AM at McMinn Memory Gardens in Athens.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
