Donald “Don” Edward Casteel, age 78, of Athens, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2019, at his residence.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was the son of the late Wilmer and Vila Ditmore Casteel and was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Opal B. Strickland Casteel; two brothers, Ray Casteel and Raymond Casteel; one sister, Joyce Stamey. Don was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He retired from McKeehan Chair Company and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law,
Kim Bohannon of Athens
Shannon Armstrong and husband, Brian of Wartrace
Jennifer Casteel-Smith and husband, James of Nashville
Three grandchildren: Amanda Kelsey, Tyler Graves, and Jarren Smith
Five great grandchildren: Madison, Sofie, Ella, Belle and Piper
Several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 am Saturday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Daniel White officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Friday at the funeral home.
