John "Danny" Daniel Wilson

John Daniel “Danny” Wilson, 71, of Riceville, and lifelong resident of McMinn County, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Erlanger Medical Center. Danny retired from Bowater Southern Paper Company after 42 years, and then worked as a bus driver for Athens City Schools for six years. He was a long-time member of the Elks Lodge No. 1927, where he served in many capacities. He also served on the Veterans Day Parade Committee for 13 years.

Danny was a son of the late John William and Margaret Edith Logan Wilson. He was also preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Shirley Wade, a sister, Janie Roberts, and a grandson, Silas Wilson.

Danny is survived by his wife of 35 years, Annette Latham Wilson, daughters: Kristie Danielle Neely (Nick), Amy Michelle Murphy (Jeremy), son: John Adam Wilson (Katlyn), sister: Deidra Nunley (Clyde), brother: Wayne Wilson and fiancé Leslie Plemons, grandchildren: Dylan Neely (Emily Grace), Jack Neely (Bethaney), Brooklyn Wilson, and Peyton Wilson, great grandsons: MacKellan Neely and River Neely, sister-in-law and spouse: Melanie and Randy Underwood, and several nieces and nephews, including special niece Michaela Underwood and special nephew, Trevor Laymance (Shawna).

The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church in Riceville on Saturday, May 27, 2023, with a celebration of life service to follow. Reverend Garry King will be officiating.
