Rev. Claude Melton Womac, age 91 of Athens, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2022 at his residence.
Claude was a native of Cleveland and longtime resident of McMinn County. He was the son of the late Noah Abraham Womac and Mary Cash Womac. He is also preceded in death by Son Chris Womac on May 2, 1982, grandson Dallas Chrisman, great grandson Deonte Womac, sisters Viola Hapeman and Wanda Lundsford, brothers Bill Womac, Bob Womac, M.B. Womac and Jack Womac.
He was a wonderful husband, father grandfather and great grandfather. Claude was a member of East Athens Baptist Church and retired from Magic Chef as a mechanical engineer.
Claude is survived by his loving wife of 72 years Louise Wallace Womac of Athens;
Daughters Claudette Johnston (Bill) and Alison Matoy (Michael) all of Athens;
Grandchildren Carmon Womac, Christy Womac, Chase Matoy and Jordan Johnston;
Great Grandchildren Destiny Ferguson, Christian Hughes, Hunter Matoy and Mela Matoy;
Great Great Grandson Tytus Sisson;
Sisters Kathryn Mason of Denver, CO and Ruth Ross of Asheville, NC;
Several Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces and Great Nephews.
Funeral Services will be at 7 PM Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at Ziegler Funeral Home with Rev. Jason Robertson and Rev. Chris Hampton officiating.
Interment will be at 11 AM Thursday at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jackson Locke, Mike Kelly, Jamie McConkey, Darren Ricks, James King and Chase Matoy.
The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 PM, Wednesday.
