William E. “Gene” Burke, age 80,of Athens,passed away Thursday, May 16, 2019, at Starr Regional Medical Center in Athens

A native and l

ifelong resident of McMinn County, he was the son of the late Ralph Burke and Helen Curtis Burke Robinson and was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Darlene Wilson Burke; daughter, Marcy; two sisters, Wanda and Darlene; one brother, Freddy. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was owner/operator of Burke’s Diesel Service.

Survivors include five daughters: Vickie, Susie, Cindy, Tonda and Teresa

Three sons: Ricky, Tommy and Matthew

Several grandchildren and great grandchildren

Three sisters,

   Deloris Mahoney, Donna Devine and Debbie Malone

One brother, Alan Robinson

Funeral services will be 7 pm Wednesday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Plaster and Rev. Mark Cameron officiating.  Burial will be 2 pm Thursday in Rogers Creek Cemetery.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
