Maudie Lee (Crabtree) Ratledge

Maudie Lee Crabtree Ratledge, age 87, of Athens, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, December 09, 2017, at the home of her daughter. She was surrounded by her loving family as she ended her life’s journey. Maudie was born October 05, 1930 to William Jacob Crabtree and Nettie Antha Whitaker of Caloco Rock, Arkansas. She was a lifetime resident of Athens and a member of Piney Grove United Methodist Church. She retired from Walmart in 1993 after 26 years of service as Associate Manager. Maudie was an avid reader, painter and ceramic designer. Several of her works of art are proudly displayed in her families’ homes. Maudie is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, James F. Ratledge, father and mother, W. J. and Nettie A. Whitaker Crabtree, three brothers, James (Joe) W. Crabtree, Rev. Glenn Crabtree and Odie Crabtree and one brother-in-law, Rev. Ralph Sliger. She is survived by her two sons, a daughter and their spouses, James W. and Deanna Ratledge, Michael W. and Linda Ratledge and Ginger and Mike Weese all of Athens. She is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Rozella Crabtree and a sister, Barbara Sliger all of Athens. Maudie was a loving and supportive grandmother to 10 grandkids and 11 great-grandkids. Her love and support she continually offered to her family was always unconditional. She taught each of her children and great-grandchildren how to love unconditionally, and will be profoundly missed. The legacy that she has passed on will last for generations to come. The family will celebrate Maudie’s life on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 7:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Home with Rev. Gayle Crabtree and Rev. Mark Sliger officiating. The committal service will be Wednesday at 1:00 pm in Piney Grove Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be, Jonathan Weese, Tyler Ratledge, Christopher Patty, James Ratledge, David Ratledge and John Ratledge. Visitation will be 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Tuesday, prior to the service at Ziegler Funeral Home.
